17 *Fierce* Female Characters The Harry Potter Series Gave Us - Thank You, J.K. Rowling.

Harry Potter is a universe with endless possibilities of twists, turns and probabilities. Maybe that is the reason that there are so many fan-fics and theories that exist still, even after the last chapter closed on us, ending the saga. J.K. Rowling gave us a bevy of characters to remember, for good or bad, through the magical world that she created, and amongst them, today we are going to talk about a few.

We bring to you some of the fiercest female characters from the series - you obviously know them all, but they need to be talked and written about. Here we go...

1. Hermione Granger

She was not just the brightest witch of her age, but also the bravest one. At the tender age of eleven, when one doesn't even know how to fathom a situation, she chose her path wisely, stuck by her friends in their quest to finish off the evillest wizard of all times, and displayed an extraordinary knack for not just spell-casting, but logic, bravery and knowledge.

2. Bellatrix Lestrange

If Hermione was fighting for the good, here we have the opposite and darker version of her. Bellatrix was a fierce fighter and loyal follower of the Dark Lord, and stuck with him and his cause, no matter how evil, till the very end.

3. Luna Lovegood

Luna was a gentle soul who believed in all things good, no matter how extraordinarily weird they might be. But she was a brave witch and fierce woman too, who would do anything for her friends. She fought at the Ministry, braved the prison cell at Malfoy Manor, and struck at the battle at Hogwarts. If that doesn't count for being a fierce and brave woman, what does?

4. Ginevra Weasley

The movies may not have done complete justice to the character, but in the books Ginny was fierce as hell, just like the long, red mane that she flaunted. She loved Harry enough to let go, and as he admitted himself, was not one to mope about it. She stood up to bullies, was a crucial part of Dumbledore's Army, and fought the battle with bravery. A true partner to "The Chosen One".

5. Augusta Longbottom

A woman who is probably in her seventies, but is formidable as hell. How else will you explain the fact that when Death Eaters went calling, she hexed the hell out of them and escaped? Not just that, Mrs Longbottom joined Neville in the battle of Hogwarts, and fought with immense energy. Salute!

6. Molly Weasley

If you want to witness the epitome of fury, watch a mother whose child has been hurt. Molly Weasley fought like a warrior always, but her wrath knew no bounds when Bellatrix killed Fred and her killing curse missed Ginny by a few inches. Molly gave Bellatrix the end she deserved.

7. Nymphadora Tonks

She was one clumsy and adorable woman, but dare you call Tonks Nymphadora, and her thoughts would reflect in her hair colour. She loved fiercely, fought with the same intensity and, in the end, died with her love by her side, going down fighting the dark forces. Nymphadora Tonks was everything a young woman aspires to be.

8. Minerva McGonagall

The fierce deputy headmistress of Hogwarts may have been older in years, but was not in any way behind than the younger ones in courage or stamina. With her wit as sharp as her claws when in cat form, McGonagall was one tough nut that the Death Eaters wished they had never met.

9. Fleur Delacour

Part Veela and infused with a fairy-like delicacy, Fleur was one pixie-like yet brave witch. She entered the Triwizard tournament, and though could not win it, went on to procure as many points as she could. She was one fierce woman who did not let a few scars come in the way of her love for Bill Weasley, and went on to be a part of the most lovable wizard family.

10. Olympe Maxime

Along with Hagrid, the headmistress of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic wandered the distant of lands to bring back the alliance of the giants. Not only that, she managed to save Hagrid's life and bring him back to safety from the most vicious of giants, when attacked. Saving your man like a tigress, that takes immense courage.

11. Cho Chang

She may not have been a likeable character in the fifth instalment, but one cannot deny the fact that she did go on to be a part of the battle of Hogwarts, and fight the evil, standing shoulder to shoulder with the ones who were manning the boundaries of Hogwarts, and helped save the foundation of wizarding world.

12. Narcissa Malfoy

Yes, she was on the wrong side. Yes, she did ally herself with the dirtiest of the wizard-kind. She was the kind of person for whom blood was of paramount importance and life without lineage was trash. But she was a fierce mother, and using her instincts she saved Harry's life, bringing about the downfall of Voldemort, and saving her own family in the process.

13. Pomona Sprout

The lady who can deal with the most vicious of plants, be it Devil's Snare, or Mandrakes, or even taking care of the Whomping Willow, she surely deserves a mention in this list. After all, it takes knowledge plus courage to tame such plants and Professor Sprout did it with ease.

14. Poppy Pomfrey

She was there for the students for the gravest of their grievances. Let there be hell to pay, but for Madam Pomfrey, the well-being of the students was primary. She did not even mind telling off Professor Dumbledore, the headmaster, for stressing her patients with information that wore them out.

15. Parvati and Padma Patil

Forget the movie versions, where they were nothing more than Yule Ball partners for Harry and Ron, and just another pair of Indian girls. Parvati and Padma were much more than that. Remember when Parvati stood up for Neville in the first book? (P.S.: Unlike in the movies, in the books the sisters belonged to different houses. While Parvati was in Gryffindor, Padma was a Ravenclaw.)

16. Arabella Figg

It needs courage to witness magic in front of you, and yet not repel it because you cannot do it. Being a squib, she dedicated her life to becoming a guardian for Harry, on Dumbledore's orders, and did her job perfectly well.

17. Lily Potter

Last, but not the least, Lily, the mother who gave her life to save her son, should be here as well. From the glimpses we have of her, whether it was standing up to James for Snape, or even standing up to Snape and telling him upfront about his choice of company, Lily Potter was a fierce woman who should have lived longer to tell a tale of her own.

We have grown up reading about these women, and can't love them more. Did we miss any you love? Let us know in the comments below.

The Story Behind The National Pledge

Educationist Maria Montessori once said, "Early childhood education is the key to the betterment of society”. Our schooling heavily influences what we are in society today. We all remember our school days with much fondness, the memories of our friends and teachers bring us great joy. In all the memories we have of school, the morning assembly is often neglected. Irrespective of the school we studied in, there are two things that are common, the National Anthem and the National Pledge. We often ignore the importance and the story behind the latter. The people of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh have a strong connection to it. The schools in the city of Visakhapatnam were the first to recite the National Pledge in the country. In 1962 renowned Telugu author P.V Subba Rao composed the pledge while he was working as the District Treasury Office at Visakhapatnam. He later submitted the pledge to the local minister at that time Tenneti Viswanadham, after whom the local Tennet
